SUMMER IS SIZZLING WITH SOME OF THE HOTTEST FESTIVALS IN SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER

Mark your calendars for some of these exciting celebrations of everything from music to sunflowers.

Set sail with the Spirit of the Red River Cruise for a unique, scenic view of the area’s historic Red River and Cross Bayou, led by Capt. Sandy Jackson, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. In addition to boat rides, Spirit of the Red River Cruise also offers single-passenger kayak rentals.

One of Shreveport-Bossier's most popular festivals celebrates the humble crawfish. The Mudbug Madness Festival is known for around-the-clock live zydeco music and Louisiana crawfish served every imaginable way. It is recognized as one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events, drawing more than 50,000 people per day.

Join in a celebration of African American culture, food, music and art at the 28th Annual Let the Good Times Roll Festival, June 20-22 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. The festival always brings the best in live old school, funkadelic and R&B music, as well as Southern cuisine, arts and crafts.

For an off-the-beaten path experience, take a moment to stop and smell the flowers at the Annual Sunflower Trail and Festival, June 21 in Gilliam, which also is one of the featured stops on our Boom or Bust Byway. The day is always chock full with family-oriented fun, including food, crafts, entertainment and of course, plenty of bright sunflowers planted along Highway 3049, north of Shreveport.  Stop by theShreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau’s downtown office to pick up a Boom or Bust Byway Scenic GPS Ranger in English, Spanish or French, or download the app on your smartphone.

Make a stop at The Outlets at Louisiana Boardwalk and be among the first to try your luck at Shreveport-Bossier’s newest gaming destination, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Casino. The highly-anticipated casino opened in summer 2013 and this summer look forward to Horseshoe Casino and Hotel opening its new $3.5 million tropical pool and club.

Blast off your Fourth of July celebration with an exciting day on the riverfront at the KTBS-3 Independence Day Festival held at Shreveport’s Riverview Park featuring live music, fireworks and fun.
